| "I hate it when people say they hate Madoka Magica. Personally, I not only think it's the best magical girl show, but the best anime as well." Well I hate when people hate that people hate Madoka Magica. >: P Let people enjoy or not enjoy what they want, as long as they don't start attacking people. |

| It's fine if people think it's the best magical girl anime... I mean I don't agree even though I never watched it (maybe one day I'll look past the artstyle. and even then it will never be a favorite, because that's just a big deal for me).
BUT BEST ANIME? What... How... I mean... It's a magical girl series. That is not happy go lucky. Wow. I don't even find the whole thing that refreshing. There are so many amazing anime out there (even in recent times if you manage to avoid all the moe crap and super abusive tsunderes). So why this?

1 ) The big names behind it. Studio Shaft - The creators of the much beloved Bakemongatari. People also like their particular animation style. Akiyuki Shinbo - The Director of Nanoha Gen Urobochi - Lying writer. Known for his tragic and bloody works. Yuki Kajura - Known for her amazing, haunting music. Emiri Katou - Voice actress for Kagami of Lucky Star. Ume Aoki - Character designer, author of Hidamari Sketch. Gekidan InuCurry - This is who you have to thank for the trippy witch designs. Fans of the above were sold the moment word of this show arrived.
2 ) Taking the genre in a direction they think it hasn't been before. A lot of people who aren't fans of the genre but love Madoka aren't aware of the darkness in the past. Princess Tutu? Never heard of it. Sailor Moon? Gay. The key difference is that Tutu, Sailor Moon and Uta Kata aren't ALL ABOUT TRAGEDY AND DESPAIR, while Madoka pretty much suffocates you with it. Let's not forget Revolutionary Girl Utena, which is considered a REAL deconstruction of the genre.
3 ) Shock Value. I'll give that it's nice when a show does something unexpected. Plenty of people love being trolled and this show tries to pull it off every other episode.
4 ) Lots of things to analyze. It's hard for me to believe, but the giant fanmade wiki for this series proves that people love looking for any little symbol or rune to analyze and translate. The show's also packed with symbolism and vagueness which leaves people with lots to speculate.
5 ) FAUST Madoka Magica is ten times more enjoyable to people who are familiar with the story of Faust, since this anime is essentially Faust with Magical Girls. |

| Big names... It's official now, I'm super out of touch with current anime xD
I've heard the 'never been done thing' (or you know, that's what they think) that does indeed seem to be the most heard reason for people to love this so much. Which rises the question... are the fans newer to anime? Stuff like My-HiME/Otome is quite popular outside of the magical girl fanbase (or was, because 2004 is almost outdated already) and Utena is an absolute classic. Sailor Moon too, but so many people are familiar with childish dubs that I can understand why people won't look for darker stuff there. But all of the darker titles are older. So it's not just 'new to the magical girl genre'. It's all personal preference, but I think that the people who name Madoka as the best anime ever, just haven't seen a lot. And actually, that goes for a lot of anime...
Shock value doesn't mean much to me... it seems tiring to have some kind of OMG reaction to every episode. It's why I like the pacing of Uta~Kata and My-HiME so much. Taking it slow, building it up...
Analyzing is good, that stuff keeps fandoms alive. Endless discussions. But it doesn't make the stuff that's on my screen much better imo.
I am indeed not familiar with Faust xD

| It's called an opinion, people. Calm your tits. I'm getting kind of tired of people bashing other people's opinions. If someone wants to say they think Madoka is the best anime, that's fine. You can't say give any real excuse why it wouldn't be, nor can you do it for any other anime. If you want to disagree that's fine but you can't sit here and say any show is terrible just because you don't like it. These opinions have nothing to do with the little list you've decided to create either, Link. Sometimes people like things just because they do, there doesn't have to be a goddamn reason behind it. |

| Okay, I was harsh. I sincerely apologize, I'm basically having the worst week ever and ughhh. *bow*
Let me first state that I personally would never state something to be 'the best anime/movie/song/tv series/book ever'. I have loads of personal favorites, and that's what they are and should stay. So when I see people stating things like that, I'm always a skeptic.
I still believe that the only reason that Madoka Magica is so popular is because the darker magic girls that we have are older. People new to anime aren't familiar to them and only know the two magical girl series that defined these last years; PreCure and I guess Shugo Chara. So in their eyes obviously Madoka Magica is absolutely amazing. It's exactly the reason why I was so impressed with Uta~Kata all those years ago. But over the years I've seen so many other things, and I'm just not impressed with the things I've read about, or the clips I've seen of it. It's not just Madoka... I'm severely unimpressed with majority of recent anime. (and most movies. music. tv series...) I can like them, but I'm not impressed. In a few years, Madoka will be where the darker magical girl anime from a few years back are anyway.
I guess because I have seen it been done before, I don't get the 'best anime' thing at all. It's personal I guess. Just like linking it obviously.
^ And this is really just analyzing popularity of stuff. If people love Madoka Magica, that's great. I just hope they will broaden their horizons and see other (darker) magical girls =) Also, I'm not saying that Madoka Magica isn't original at all. It's not a rip-off at all. But the argument is always 'the darker side has never been done before' and that's my reaction to that. |

| "Hate" is such a strong word. I hope this person at least accepts that other people have different opinions and moves on, and doesn't bash people who didn't enjoy Madoka. |
