Synopsis:
Lucia Nanami is one of the seven Mermaid Princesses and rules the North Pacific Ocean. When she was young she gave her Pink Pearl to a young boy in order to save his life after falling overboard a cruise ship. Lucia is now thirteen and must travel to the human world to find the boy and her lost pearl, because she can't protect the sea without it. It's up to Lucia to gather the seven Mermaid Princesses and use their song, defeat a growing evil force and reawaken Aqua Regina.

This was the first anime that I watched in Japanese, back in 2005. And I was incredibly obsessed with it. I had every (mostly German) fan website in my favorites and I owned one of the first Dutch fan websites. Nowadays, MMPPP isn't even really a favorite anymore. It just has a very special place in my heart. I know every song, I know [retty much all the lyrics, I still make AMV's with the series and I still own my 7 manga volumes, though I might sell them at some point anyway. I never really liked Lucia, but I liked the other Princesses (especially Sara, Coco, Caren and Noel). The fillers are just terrible though. If they had kept this series shorter and more to-the-point it would've been a lot better.

I love Mermaid Melody. it may not be my favorite magical girl series, but it will always have a special place in my heart. I've loved mermaids since before I can remember, so when I discovered there was a show that (at the time) I thought was just Sailor Moon with mermaids, I freaked out.

I found some of the figures in a store here in Boston, and hunted the internet until I found out what it was. Rina was the first figure I got, so she'll always be special to me, but my favorite is Karen. I agree, Lucia is very meh in my opinion. I also have all the manga, but I'll be holding on to them since I think they've been discontinued in the states.

My favorite dub is italian, i like the songs more than most of the japanese ones, AND last time I checked the italian soundtracks are for sale on american iTunes. that's a plus.

@Mattimation Caren/Karen is awesome, loved her character from the first moment she appeared. I'm not sure about the manga, but since Del Rey was replaced by Kodansha it's possible that they're discontinued. Oh I like the Italian dub, the songs are great and I have a few on my mp3 player.

@VisualSpiff The anime just isn't that great. I was 12/13 when I loved it, but I wouldn't recommend it now. I would rather recommend the manga. I like the manga artstyle better, the story is more to the point and it's slightly more mature (13+, while the anime was obviously intended for younger audiences too). It's just that you'll miss all the catchy songs xD

Karen, Hanon, Coco & Noel were all my favorite mermaids.

I love Pichi Pichi Pitch with all my heart ;__; it helped me through a lot and spawned the grandest, longest-running inside joke in my life...

I own most of the manga, but will have to replace the first 2 volumes due to an unfortunate incident that took place when I let my cafe partner borrow them ^^; It's so much better than the anime. If I were to recommend the series to someone, I'd tell them to read the manga, but listen to the anime's songs, too. The songs are definitely important.

Also Lucia is my spirit animal. Somehow. We're actually nothing alike. But I still feel like she's my spirit animal.

I haven't said my piece about this yet so I shall. This was then first anime I ever watched with subtitles. I had only just gotten the internet and I was looking for Sailor Moon and Utena stuff when I found Mermaid Melody. It inspired me to make a webcomic about girls in a High School band class/Choir Class and when the manga was released in English it brought me closer to acquaintances through our love of the series.

I've been noticing that a good bulk of the confessions related to this show express hatred for it. Why all the hate?
