As one of the steps in producing MSKT involves mentally picturing scenes as if it were an anime, no anime would be complete without background music. I use mostly the soundtracks from Otogi-Jushi Akazukin, Heartcatch Precure and CardCaptor Sakura.

As seen in my desktop earlier, I have them arranged according to the mood they convey, so I can seek out a particular mood without having to read tons of Japanese titles. Here are some examples of the ones I typically use.

Tragic is the wrong word really, but I thought "Sad" wouldn't be good. Maybe depressing.

I don't so much have mood music, but listening to music helps. My only requirement is that it is in a foreign language that I don't understand. If I understand what is being said, I tend to start writing the lyrics instead of my words!

I kind of make play lists for each story I produce. When I was working on 5683 I would listen to a lot of songs about love, it being a show about cupids and such. the biggest song I can remember using was "When Did Your Heart Go Missing?" by Rooney.

for my new show, which is about magical girls who fight in lingerie, I listen to more sexy music. "Lady Marmalade" was the inspiration for the idea, so I listen to that a lot. I also listen to "Midnight City" by M83, which is the music used in Victoria's Secret commercials.

a song my roommate from my old college wrote and performed is the inspiration for a scene in the new show, so hopefully I get to use it as background music!

For my ongoing Digimon-inspired Pretty Cure fanfic "The Door to Summer" I thought about having "Jounetsu Mugendai" from the original Pretty Cure make a triumphant return as a transformation song.
